Enjoy a scenic drive to Meenmutty Waterfall, which is one of the largest and most picturesque waterfalls in Kerala. The waterfall is about 3 km from the main road and can only be reached by trekking, which takes around 45 minutes. The trek is not difficult, and the beauty of the falls makes the effort worthwhile. You can also take a dip in the cool water of the waterfall and refresh yourself.
After visiting the waterfall, head to Bamboo Rafting at Kuruva Island. It is a unique experience to raft on bamboo boats and explore the surrounding forest and the river. Kuruva Island is covered with evergreen forests to which a variety of endangered species of flora and fauna are native. You will be surrounded by the relaxing sounds of nature and the lively chirping of birds.
Next, visit the Vanatur Sagar Dam to enjoy the serene beauty of the water reservoir. The dam is surrounded by lush green trees and hills and provides excellent views. You can enjoy activities such as boating and fishing here, or simply sit back and appreciate the calming atmosphere.
Start your day with a visit to the Edakkal Caves, located in the Ambukuthi Hills. These are two natural caves that have unique archaeological significance. The caves contain rock engravings that are believed to be over 8,000 years old, and they depict figures of human and animal figures. The short trek to the cave is quite steep, and you should wear comfortable shoes.
After exploring the caves, it's time to head back to your homestay and check out. Enjoy a hearty breakfast before you depart for your next destination
If you have more time, you can add the Banasura Sagar Dam and the Chembra Peak Trek to your itinerary. Both these destinations are significant natural attractions of Wayanad. However, you need to plan for an additional day to visit these places.
If you have less time, you can skip the Vanatur Sagar Dam, or choose an alternative location in Wayanad such as the Thirunelli Temple or Kalpetta. You can also opt for a shorter trek at Edakkal Caves, which takes about 20 minutes instead of 45 minutes.
