Metaxata is just a 15-minute drive from Kefalonia Airport. To travel around the island, consider renting a car or hiring a taxi. The taxi fare from Metaxata to Lassi Beach is around €20, and from Lassi Beach to Drogarati Cave and Melissani Lake is around €45. Public transportation is limited on the island, and hence renting a car or hiring a taxi is the best option.
If you have more time, include a visit to the island's capital, Argostoli, and stroll along the promenade. If you want to subtract a day, unfortunately, you'll have to drop the trip to Melissani Lake and Drogarati Cave, and spend more time at Lassi Beach or visiting other family-friendly beaches.
