Start your Almaty experience with a visit to Central Park, located in the heart of the city. Enjoy a peaceful stroll through the gardens and a ride on the park's Ferris wheel. For a dose of history, visit the National Museum of Kazakhstan, which showcases the country's vast cultural and natural heritage. End the day with a visit to the beautiful Kok-Tobe mountain, accessible via a cable car ride that offers stunning views of Almaty.
Head to the nearby area of Medeu to visit the world-famous Medeu Ice Skating Rink, where many international competitions have taken place. Take a stroll around the popular recreational area and enjoy the scenery. From there, continue on to the Shymbulak Ski Resort, accessible via a scenic gondola ride, to enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and other winter sports (only available during winter months). Alternatively you can take a hike in the summer months. Enjoy the day and dinner at the resort's restaurant before returning to Almaty at sunset.
Travel outside of Almaty to see some of Kazakhstan's natural and cultural wonders. Start with a visit to the stunning Charyn Canyon, known for its unique rock formations and beautiful colors. After exploring the canyon, continue on to the Tamgaly Petroglyphs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that features ancient rock carvings and paintings dating back to the Bronze Age. Take some time to take in the history and culture before returning to Almaty in the evening.
If you have more time, you can explore other outdoor areas such as Big Almaty Lake or Altyn-Emel National Park. For a more urban experience, visit the local bazaars and enjoy some traditional Kazakh cuisine. If you have less time, consider visiting only the top attractions and areas, such as Central Park and the Shymbulak Ski Resort, and explore a specific area or region in-depth.
