The Edakkal Caves are a must-visit for history enthusiasts and adventurers. The caves are situated at an altitude of 4000ft and are accessible by a 1.5km trek up a steep hill. The caves have ancient carvings on the stone walls and offer a spectacular view of the surrounding hills and valleys.
If you have more time, you can explore other places in Wayanad such as the Banasura Sagar Dam, Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, and Soochipara Falls. In Allepey, you can also visit the Marari Beach and the Krishnapuram Palace. If you have less time, you can skip the Edakkal Caves or limit the houseboat experience to a half-day. Don't forget to carry comfortable shoes and clothing for trekking and carry sunscreen and insect repellent.
