Be sure to visit the Ginučiai Water Mill and the 18th-century ethnographic Paežeriai homestead.
Trakai Island Castle is a fairy tale-like castle that sits on a picturesque island in the middle of Lake Galvė. The castle dates back to the 14th century and has served as a residence for Lithuanian dukes, a prison, and a military fortress. Take a guided tour of the castle and learn about its fascinating history. Afterward, stroll through the charming town of Trakai and enjoy a traditional Lithuanian meal at one of the many restaurants.
If you have more time, consider spending an extra day in Aukštaitija National Park to explore more lakes and hiking trails. If you have less time, skip Aukštaitija National Park and spend a full day in Trakai. It's also worth noting that both locations can be quite busy during peak tourist season, so plan accordingly and arrive early to avoid crowds.
