While Tirana is a relatively small city, it can be quite chaotic to drive in, so we recommend relying on taxis or public transportation during your stay. Taxis in Tirana are affordable, with a starting fare of about $1.50 and an additional $0.50 per kilometer. Buses and trolleys are also available throughout the city and tickets can be purchased for about $0.50 per ride. If you plan on taking a day trip to Berat, we recommend renting a car as public transportation is limited.
If you have more time, consider taking a day trip to Kruja, the birthplace of Albania's national hero Skanderbeg, or visiting the town of Shkoder, which offers a blend of historical and natural attractions. If you have less time, consider skipping the day trip to Berat and spending an extra day in Durres or exploring more of Tirana's trendy cafes and bars.
