Embark on an adventurous 4-5 hour trek to the Dzukou Valley located at the border of Nagaland and Manipur. Known as the "Valley of Flowers" of the Northeast, Dzukou offers spectacular views of its lush forested hills amidst a sea of wildflowers. The trek is a challenging climb but the scenery is worth it.
Visit the Khonoma Nature Conservation and Tragopan Sanctuary that is home to a variety of flora and fauna. This hill forest terrain is the habitat of the endangered Blyth's Tragopan bird, which can be sighted during birding. Explore the Intanki Wildlife Sanctuary and Caves which is home to the Hoolock Gibbon, Golden Langoor, Jungle Cat and other endangered species. The sanctuary boasts a diverse topography with dense forests of bamboo, deciduous trees and over 200 species of birds. There are over 20 caves in the sanctuary, with the Siju Cave being a popular one. The guided tour will take approximately 2-3 hours.
If you have more time, visit the Shilloi Lake, considered one of Nagaland's most beautiful lakes. For less time, skip the Intanki Wildlife Sanctuary and visit the Tsodzong Waterfall near Kohima. It's a beautiful waterfall that is easily accessible from the town.
