Begin your trip with a visit to the Jagannath Puri Temple, one of the Char Dhams of India. Located on the eastern coast, this ancient temple is a significant pilgrimage site for devotees of Lord Jagannath. The temple architecture is captivating, and the annual Rath Yatra attracts millions of tourists. Spend around 2-3 hours in the temple, immerse yourself in the devotional atmosphere, and explore the temple premises.
On your second day, take a lovely road trip to two of Puri's most famous attractions. First, visit the Konark Sun Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its stunning architecture and intricate carvings. Spend 2-3 hours exploring the temple complex's history and admiring the sculptures. Afterward, head to the serene Chilika Lake, Asia's largest lake, for a peaceful boat ride and bird watching. You can expect to spend 4 hours enjoying the lake's beauty and tranquility.
For your last day, visit the Puri Beach, a long stretch of golden sand and blue water. You can take a tranquil beach walk or swim in the Bay of Bengal to beat the heat. Later, explore the Raghurajpur Artist Village, known for its traditional Pattachitra artwork. You can take some amazing artistic souvenirs and the local artists’ hospitality. Expect to spend almost 3 hours at the beach and 2-3 hours at the village.
The 3-day itinerary is pretty full, so if you have more time to spare, you can visit other significant landmarks such as the Alarnatha Temple, Balighai Beach, and Puri museum. If you have less time, you can skip the Chilika lake boat ride. It’s recommended that you rise early to beat the crowds at the temples and start your beach trip before the day gets too hot. Additionally, always carry sunscreen, hats, and adequate cash to avoid any last-minute hassle.
