Ashtamudi Lake is the second-largest lake in Kerala and a major tourist attraction. Take a mesmerizing boat ride through the calm waters of Ashtamudi Lake and enjoy the serene natural beauty of the surrounding scenic beauty. During the boat ride, you can spot some species of birds and marine animals like the bottlenose dolphins. Take a long walk around the Lake, and you would feel rejuvenated.
The 44-meter high lighthouse was built in 1902 and is a great example of British architecture. The lighthouse is open to the public, and after climbing up the twisting staircase, one can view panoramic views of the coastline and the Arabian Sea. Then, take a stroll down one of the most tranquil and beautiful beaches on the Malabar Coast, the Thangassery Beach. You can witness the sunset while relaxing on the beach, making it a memorable experience.
If you have more time, visit the Sasthamkotta Lake and Temple, which is just 25 km from the city and of great religious significance. Another place worth visiting is the Kollam Beach, which is just 2 km away from the city, and has the beautiful Tangasseri Lighthouse visible from afar. If you have less than two days, just stick to any one of the places mentioned above to enjoy the true essence of Ashtamudi.
