Start your trip off with a visit to the stunning Athirappilly Waterfalls. These falls are one of the largest and most beautiful waterfalls in Kerala with lush greenery that offers a perfect family picnic location. The falls are surrounded by a forest that is home to different species of animals and birds. You can also take a dip in the natural pool formed at the bottom of the falls.
After enjoying the falls, head to the beautiful Fort Kochi Beach. The beach offers stunning views of the Arabian Sea, with plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy including camel rides, kite flying, and beachside walks. You can also visit the historic Fort Kochi nearby, which is home to various colonial building architectures. Make sure to catch the sunset as it is quite mesmerizing
On the second day of the trip visit the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to different kinds of animals like elephants, tigers, Nilgiri Tahrs, and more. Nestled in the hills of the Western Ghats, this is an ideal place for a family day out. You can go for an elephant trek which is one of the best experiences you can have here. The place is surrounded by thick woods, and the sightseeing is a rare experience.
After the fun at the sanctuary, drive to the beautiful land of backwaters and take a traditional houseboat to cruise around in Alleppey. It is an incredibly serene experience that offers stunning views of paddy fields, quaint villages, and backwaters, giving you some quality family time. You can also indulge in some freshly cooked seafood and other local delicacies while on the ride
If you have more time, include visits to the nearby tea plantations in Munnar or explore the beaches of Kovalam. On the other hand, if you have less time, consider taking a taxi to avoid public transportation, and skip Fort Kochi and Alleppey from your itinerary.
