A Family-Friendly Wayanad Adventure

  1. Day 1: Edakkal Caves

    The Edakkal Caves are a true wonder of nature nestled in the mountains of Wayanad. These caves are home to ancient petroglyphs and provide beautiful views of the surrounding lush landscape. The hike to the caves may be a bit challenging, but it's well worth the effort. Kids will especially love exploring the caves and discovering the unique carvings.

  2. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    1 hour 30 minutes (41.5 km) from Edakkal Caves

    The Chembra Peak is the highest peak in Wayanad and offers breathtaking views of the Western Ghats. The trek to the top is a bit challenging, but doable for most people and the entire family. Along the way, enjoy the beautiful waterfalls, a heart-shaped lake, and scenic picnic spots. Once you reach the peak, take a deep breath and soak in the stunning panorama.

  3. Day 2: Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary
    40 minutes (17.4 km) from Kalpetta

    The Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary houses an impressive variety of birds and animals including tigers, elephants, leopards, and more. The drive through the sanctuary provides excellent sightings of the native fauna. Take a guided trek, or a jeep safari to view the animals in their natural habitat.

  4. Day 2: Pookode Lake
    20 minutes (9 km) from Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary

    The serene Pookode Lake is a natural freshwater lake surrounded by lush greenery. Enjoy a relaxing boat ride or go for a leisurely nature walk around the lake. You may spot some wildlife too. A small aquarium and children's park are also located nearby.

Useful Tips

If you have more time, add a visit to the Thusharagiri Falls, where the water cascades down from a height of 50 meters. Or check out the Banasura Sagar Dam, India's largest earthen dam, where you can take a boat ride on the lake or go trekking. If you have less time, consider skipping Chembra Peak or Pookode Lake. Both are amazing attractions, but they do require considerable time investment.
