Begin your pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi by arriving at Jammu Airport. From there, take a taxi or hire a private car to reach Katra, the base camp for Vaishno Devi. In the morning, start your ascent to the holy shrine. The trek is approximately 12 kilometers long and takes around 6 to 9 hours to complete, depending on your pace. Enjoy the serene mountainous surroundings and breathtaking views along the way. After reaching the Bhawan, seek blessings from the sacred shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi.
On the second day of your spiritual journey, visit the Ardh Kuwari Cave. It is believed that Mata Vaishno Devi meditated here for nine months before ultimately slaying the demon Bhairav. The cave is approximately 6 kilometers from the Bhawan and can be reached by pony or on foot. After seeking blessings at the cave, continue your trek to Bhairav Nath Temple, which is another 2 kilometers away. Marvel at the scenic beauty and immerse yourself in the divine atmosphere. After returning to the Bhawan, rest and rejuvenate for the next day.
On the final day of your spiritual journey, make your way back to Katra from the Bhawan. After descending the mountain, you can explore the local markets in Katra. Indulge in some shopping and taste the delicious local cuisine. You can also visit the Vaishno Devi Temple Charan Paduka, which is around 1.5 kilometers from the Bhawan. It is believed that Mata Vaishno Devi left her footprints here. In the evening, bid farewell to the holy shrine and return to Jammu Airport for your onward journey.
While in Katra, take some time to explore the serene landscapes of Banganga, located about 1 kilometer from the main town. This natural spring is believed to have emerged when Mata Vaishno Devi shot an arrow into the ground to quench her thirst. The lush surroundings and peaceful ambiance make it a perfect spot for relaxation and meditation. Another off the beaten path attraction is the Himkoti Viewpoint, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Trikuta Mountains. Locals often come here for picnics and to enjoy the scenery away from the crowds of the main pilgrimage route.
