Start your Alleppey escapade at the famous Alleppey Beach. The beach is known for its serene beauty and calmness, making it perfect for families to spend some quality time together. You can indulge in various activities here like swimming, boat rides, sunbathing, or just a nice leisurely walk on the beach.
If you're traveling between August to September, you can't miss the Nehru Trophy Boat Race. It's an annual snake-boat race held on the Punnamada Lake in Alleppey. The race draws a massive crowd during the season and is an exciting event to witness. You can also indulge in some delicious local delicacies at the food stalls during the event.
After the event, head over to Krishnapuram Palace, a beautiful historical palace built in the 18th century. The palace houses various artifacts, including paintings, sculptures, and antiques that showcase the rich history of the region. The Palace also has a beautiful garden and a pond, giving it a tranquil vibe.
Spend the second day cruising through the Alleppey Backwaters on a houseboat. The backwaters are a network of interconnected canals, lagoons, and lakes that offer breathtaking views of the lush greenery and traditional village life of Kerala. You can also opt for a canoe ride through the narrow canals and witness the locals fishing and farming amidst the beautiful scenery.
End your trip at Marari Beach, a beautiful unspoiled beach that still holds its natural charm. The beach has various activities for families like swimming, playing beach games, or even just relaxing and sunbathing. You can also indulge in some fresh seafood in the many local eateries around the beach.
If you have more time, you can explore other places like Pathiramanal Island, Arthunkal Church, and Mullakkal Temple. Make sure to carry sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses while visiting the beach and the backwaters as it can get quite sunny. Also, make sure to plan the trip between August to September if you want to witness the Nehru Trophy Boat Race. If you have less time, you can skip Krishnapuram Palace and Marari Beach and opt for a shorter backwater tour instead. However, we recommend spending at least two days to enjoy the full Alleppey experience.
