Start your trip exploring Fort Kochi, a historic neighborhood with European and Indian influences. Take a stroll by the beach and witness the famous Chinese fishing nets in action. Visit St. Francis Church, the oldest European church in India, and the Dutch Palace, with its stunning murals depicting Indian mythology. Also, make sure to check out the local markets for spices, souvenirs, and street food.
Take a local bus to Alleppey, also known as the Venice of the East, famous for its backwaters. The best way to explore this beautiful place is a houseboat ride. Enjoy the scenic beauty of the backwaters, witness the village life and relish the traditional Kerala cuisine served on the boat. If you're on a tight budget, you can also opt for a canoe ride that's much cheaper.
On day two, visit the beautiful hill station of Munnar. Enjoy the lush green tea gardens, scenic hills, and pleasant weather. Visit the Mattupetty Dam and catch sight of wild elephants and other animals. Don't forget to check out the Tea Museum and learn about the history of tea plantations in Munnar.
Next, head to Thekkady, known for its wildlife sanctuary, spice plantations, and beautiful views. Take a guided jungle safari to catch sight of elephants, tigers, and other wildlife. Visit a spice plantation to see how spices like cardamom, pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg are grown, harvested, and processed.
If you have more time, consider extending your stay in Thekkady and taking a Bamboo Rafting tour on the Periyar river. You can also visit the Eravikulam National Park in Munnar. For those with less time, you can skip Alleppey and take a day tour a local tour operator to explore Kochi.
