Begin your journey to Kodaikanal by visiting Matrimandir, a golden temple known for its unique structure and quiet meditation chambers. Continue to the Seaside Promenade, a long boulevard along the Bay of Bengal that offers sea breezes and picturesque views of the water and colonial buildings. Lined with palm trees and statues, this promenade has various shopping and food options. Note that it can be quite crowded and hot on weekends or holidays.
Take a morning stroll along Coakers Walk, a narrow paved path that winds along the edge of the valley and offers panoramic vistas of the cityscape and valleys. Pass by Green Valley Viewpoint and Upper Lake Viewpoint on the way. Head to the nearby Pine Forests, several acres of pine trees that exude a beguiling scent throughout the day. The forest has several walking trails and picnic spots.
If you have more time, visit the Auroville, an experimental township that boasts sustainable living and universal peace. Visit an eco-friendly, organic café and discover an international community. If you have less time, you could skip the Pine Forests and explore the various food and shopping spots around Kodaikanal's central bus station.
