2-Day Family Friendly Itinerary for Chennai

  1. Day 1: Mahabalipuram Beach
    1 hour (35 km) from Chennai

    Start your trip at Mahabalipuram Beach, a serene beach with clear water and an unobstructed view of the sunrise. Take a stroll on the pristine sand, build sandcastles with your kids, or indulge in water sports activities like snorkeling and scuba diving. Each of the Rathas is a representation of the Dravidian architecture and the complex boasts intricate carvings. The Five Rathas are also famously known as the Panch Pandava Rathas.

    Next on your itinerary is the Crocodile Bank which aims to conserve and breed various species of crocodiles and alligators. The bank houses over 2500 crocodiles of 14 different species. Visitors can take a guided tour of the facility, watch various species of crocodiles and alligators at feeding time and also learn from informative exhibits. The Crocodile Bank also conducts workshops on snake and reptile identification and conservation.

  4. Day 2: Mahabalipuram Light House
    25 minutes (13 km) from Chennai

    Start your second day with a visit to the Mahabalipuram Lighthouse - built in 1887, this lighthouse is now a popular tourist destination, offering beautiful views of the Bay of Bengal coastline. Visitors can climb the lighthouse and enjoy the glorious view of the city. There is a museum associated with the lighthouse, providing an insight into the history and functioning of the lighthouse.

  5. Day 2: VGP Golden Beach
    40 minutes (20 km) from Mahabalipuram Light House

    After visiting the lighthouse, head towards VGP Golden Beach for a day filled with fun and adventure. The beach houses a theme park, an aquarium, a water park and some good dining options. The park has many rides and slides for kids and adults, including a giant Ferris wheel and a thrilling Family Coaster ride. The aquarium has over 20 tanks of exotic fish and aquatic animals. End your day with a delicious meal at the in-house restaurant, Bay View.
