Start your family holiday in Calicut by relaxing and exploring the golden sand beach along the shimmering Arabian Sea, the Calicut Beach. Let your children run around the beach, build sandcastles, and spend time playing beach games. Take a stroll along the 2km long beach walkway, admiring the stunning sunset view. Visitors will find street food vendors that offer various authentic Kerala-style seafood and snacks.
Next, head over to the Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary, which has over 100 species of native and migratory birds. Take a boat ride through the Kadalundy River that flows into the Arabian Sea, and watch the different birds such as Brahminy Kite, Osprey, Heron, Egret, Sandplover, Tern, and Woodpecker. You can also witness the traditional fish farming that goes on in the region. The monkeys present around are friendly, but caution is advised.
If you have additional time, visit the Kozhikode Planetarium and Science Centre, and the Beypore Beach, where you can witness the unique shipbuilding heritage of the region. For foodies, try out some Kozhikode special street food, including the famous Kozhikode Halwa and Dum Porotta. If you have less time, skip the bird sanctuary and explore local temples and historical sites in Old Kozhikode, such as Tali Temple and Kozhikode Beach Lighthouse.
