4-Days City Experience in Pondicherry

  1. Day 1: Visit the Promenade Beach and Rock Beach
    10 minutes (2.3 km) from Pondicherry Railway Station

    Explore the Promenade Beach, the pride of Pondicherry, in the morning to get fresh air and enjoy the sunrise. You can indulge in activities like jogging, cycling, meditation and yoga by the beach. Walk a few meters to the Rock Beach, another beautiful beach to catch the sunrise. Enjoy a walk along the 1.2-km long coastline, and make your way to the War Memorial. Located at the end of the beach, it was erected to honor the martyrs of the Indian Freedom Movement.

  2. Day 2: Explore the French Quarter
    10 minutes (1.5 km) from Rock Beach

    Visit the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, known for its peaceful ambiance, where you can meditate and attain tranquillity. Next, walk to the Pondicherry Museum to get an insight into the rich history of Pondicherry. The museum artefacts include rare sculptures, paintings, and a collection of stone-cut inscriptions from the Pallava and Chola Dynasties. Then, visit the famous Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus which is a stunning example of Neo-Gothic architecture. Take a stroll along the Goubert Avenue and enjoy the street performances and shopping at the bazaar street.

  3. Day 3: Visit Auroville
    30 minutes (11 km) from Pondicherry Heritage Town

    A day trip to Auroville, an experimental township, is a must-do for anyone visiting Pondicherry. Its significant attractions are the matrimandir, the art and craft centre, and the solar kitchen. Visit the Matrimandir, an architectural masterpiece, and a spiritual place where one can practice contemplation and concentration. Attend the audio-visual presentation and drop-in workshops to understand Auroville better.

  4. Day 4: Explore Chunnambar Boat House
    20 minutes (8.8 km) from Auro Beach

    Start your day by visiting the Auro Beach, famous for its pristine sand and turquoise blue waters. Then take a boat ride to the Chunnambar Boat House and sail through the backwaters. Spend some time at the Paradise Beach, an unspoiled natural beauty. End your day with delicious French cuisine at some of the fantastic cafes, bakeries, and street-side vendors in Heritage Town.
