The magnificent Kochi Fort was built in the 16th century by the Portuguese, and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the Fort's lush green lawns, old cobbled alleyways and its famous Chinese fishing nets. Just a 5-minute walk away is the Mattancherry Palace, with its stunning traditional Kerala architecture, exquisite hand-painted murals and artefacts dating back to the 16th century. Pick up souvenirs at the nearby spice market and head over to the waterfront for a scenic sunset cruise.
Escape the city and head to Vypeen Island, a long narrow island separated from mainland Kochi by the Vembanad Lake. Rent a bike and explore the island's serene backwaters, paddy fields and quaint fishing villages. Stop by Cherai Beach for an evening stroll and indulge in some authentic Kerala cuisine at one of the beach's high-end restaurants. End the day with an Ayurvedic massage at a luxurious spa or wellness centre back in Kochi.
If you have an extra day, hop on a ferry to Fort Kochi Beach and visit the iconic St. Francis Church, or explore the city's bustling spice markets. For a more immersive experience, opt for a homestay with a local family and learn to cook some delicious Kerala cuisine.
If you have less time, skip the sunset cruise and head straight to Cherai Beach for a relaxing day by the sea. Alternatively, spend the day exploring the city's diverse museums, such as the Kerala Folklore Museum or the Maritime Museum.
