The Edakkal Caves are a unique experience, located atop Ambukutty Mala. Keep in mind that the trek is closed during the monsoon season, and visitors require prior permission from the forest department.
The Banasura Sagar Dam is the largest earth dam in India, and is truly a sight to behold. The waters offer excellent opportunities for speedboat and pedal boat rides, and the surrounding lush green forests form a picturesque backdrop. In the evenings, visitors can experience the mesmerizing laser light show, which tells the story of the Banasura legend.
Pookode Lake is an ideal location for nature lovers, with its surrounding evergreen forests and crystal clear waters. Tourists can enjoy activities such as boating, horse riding, and trekking in the nearby hills. The freshwater aquarium located on the site is home to a wide variety of fish species found in the Western Ghats, and is a must-visit for marine enthusiasts.
If you have more time, you can visit the nearby Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to elephants, tigers and leopards. You can also shop for spices and handicrafts at the local markets in Kalpetta. If you have less time, you can skip Edakkal Caves and Pookode Lake, and spend more time at Banasura Sagar Dam and Chembra Peak.
