Visit the ancient Edakkal Caves and explore the ancient carvings and inscriptions. It is a 1.5 km trek uphill to reach the caves, which is a moderate trek. Enjoy the scenic view of the mountains and forests on the way.
Spend the day at the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India. Enjoy the view of the magnificent landscape, go on a trek or take a boat ride. Later visit the Meenmutty Waterfalls, a magnificent three-tier waterfall surrounded by lush greenery. It involves a 2 km trek through the forest, which is an easy trek.
Visit the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary and get a chance to spot elephants, tigers, leopards, and many other rare species. The sanctuary consists of dense forests, hills, and valleys. Take a jeep safari to explore the sanctuary or go on a nature walk with an experienced guide.
Visit the Pazhassi Raja Tomb & Museum, a memorial of the legendary Kerala warrior king Pazhassi Raja, and witness the history of Wayanad. Later, visit the Chain Tree, which is a large Ficus tree chained to a myth of a British Colonial officer's murder. According to the legend, the spirit of Pazhassi Raja saved an innocent man who was accused of the murder by leading him to the Chain Tree.
Visit the ancient Thirunelly Temple, located in the laps of the Brahmagiri hills. The temple is surrounded by lush greenery, and it is believed that Lord Brahma created the temple's holy water tank. Later, visit the Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary, which is a paradise for bird lovers. The sanctuary is situated at a height of 1740 meters above sea level and is home to a variety of rare bird species.
If you have more time, you can add a visit to the Soochipara Waterfalls, which is a beautiful three-tier waterfall surrounded by lush greenery, or trek to the Chembara Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. If you have less time, you can skip visiting the Chain Tree and add a visit to the Jain Temple or the Kuruva Island.
