The Malacca River is the birthplace and backbone of the city. Jonker Street is the historical center of Malacca. Along this street, you will find antique shops, street food vendors, and several museums. The street also has a night market on Fridays and Saturdays, which is an excellent place to try out local delicacies. Be sure to check out the Baba & Nyonya Museum, which shows the Peranakan style of living.
Located on the outskirts of Malacca, Melaka Wonderland Theme Park & Resort is a popular family attraction with over 16 water rides and attractions. This park has facilities for all ages, from a play pool for toddlers to thrilling high-speed water slides for adults. There is also a man-made beach and wave pool. Make sure to bring your swimwear along!
If you're traveling with young children, a visit to Malacca Butterfly and Reptile Sanctuary is a must. This place has over 20 species of butterflies from all over the world, a reptile park, and an insect gallery. Staff members are also on hand to provide mini-talks and tours to educate the visitors. Children can even get hands on with some of the animals.
If you have more time, it's worth visiting the Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum, displays of the traditional Chinese-Malay costumes and antiques from the Straits Chinese culture. If you prefer an outdoor experience, the Malacca Botanical Garden and the Mini Malaysia and ASEAN Cultural Park are also worth a visit. For a more local feel, add Kampung Kling Mosque on Jalan Tukang Emas, for the gorgeous tiles and quiet retreat. If you have limited time, you can skip the Malacca Butterfly and Reptile Sanctuary and go to the Malacca Zoo and Night Safari instead.
