2-Day Nature Itinerary in Srinagar

  1. Day 1: Shalimar Bagh
    25 minutes (6.7 km) from Srinagar city centre

    Shalimar Bagh is a stunning Mughal garden that was built in the 17th century. It has a well-maintained lawn, beautiful water fountains and lined trees. It is spread over an area of about 12 hectares. This serene garden is situated on the right bank of the Dal Lake and provides a mesmerizing view of the lake and snow-capped mountains. The garden also includes a small museum and a few shops that sell local souvenirs. The garden remains open from 9 am to 7 pm from Wednesday to Monday.

  2. Day 1: Dal Lake
    20 minutes (4.3 km) from Shalimar Bagh

    No trip to Srinagar is complete without visiting the Dal Lake. The lake is spread over 26 square kilometres and is surrounded by breathtaking Himalayan mountains. A ride on a traditional Kashmiri houseboat called Shikara is a popular way to explore the lake and its islands. The houseboats have all modern amenities like a living room, bedroom and a kitchen. You can also indulge in some local shopping at the floating markets nearby. The best time to visit the lake is from May to November. The lake is open 24 hours.

  3. Day 2: Mughal Gardens
    20 minutes (5.3 km) from Srinagar city centre

    The Mughal Gardens are a group of gardens built by the Mughals in the 16th century. There are three gardens: Nishat Bagh, Shalimar Bagh, and Chashme Shahi. Each of the gardens is unique in its design and layout. The gardens have beautiful water fountains, colorful flowers and a great view of the snow-capped mountains. It is advised to visit the gardens in the morning to avoid the afternoon crowd. The gardens are open from 9 am to 7 pm from Wednesday to Monday.

  4. Day 2: Pari Mahal
    10 minutes (5.2 km) from Mughal Gardens

    Pari Mahal is a seven-terraced garden that is located atop the Zabarwan Mountain range. The garden was built in the 17th century and has a beautiful blend of Mughal and Islamic architecture. The garden provides a panoramic view of the Dal Lake and the whole Srinagar city. The garden is open from 10 am to 5 pm on all days of the week.

Visiting Srinagar during the summer season is the best time as the weather is pleasant and most of the tourist spots are open. On the other hand, if you have only one day, you can choose either the Mughal Gardens or the Dal Lake Shikara ride as per your preferences. Srinagar is safe, but take care of your belongings while you explore the city. Finally, do try the local cuisine that includes Wazwan, Harisa, and Kahwah tea.
