The Amber Fort is a 16th-century palace-fortress with stunning views of Maota Lake. Highlights include the Sheesh Mahal, a mirrored palace and the Diwan-i-Am, a hall of public audience.
Jaisalmer Fort is a World Heritage Site, constructed out of yellow sandstone which gives it a beautiful, golden hue. The fort has several entrances and is home to many families and shops. Gadisagar Lake is a man-made reservoir that was constructed in the 14th century. It is a popular attraction for both tourists and locals alike, and offers an opportunity for boating.
Take a day to indulge in some souvenir shopping and spice laden cuisine. After sunset, take a desert safari which includes a jeep ride through the sand dunes and a cultural program featuring music and dance.
The Hawa Mahal is a five-story building constructed of pink sandstone in the heart of Jaipur. The unique feature of this palace is the honeycomb design on its windows that allowed the Queen and her ladies to observe the street procession without being seen. Nahargarh Fort is located on a steep hill and offers panoramic views of the city. The fort dates back to the 18th century and houses a wax museum.
If you have more time, consider adding a visit to Udaipur's City Palace and Lake Pichola. Another great option is a desert camping expedition in the Sam Sand Dunes.
If you have less time, consider skipping Nahargarh Fort or the camel ride portion of the Desert Safari. If you're not interested in shopping, spend more time at Jaisalmer Fort or Amber Fort instead.
