Start your trip with one of Wayanadu's most famous attractions, Chembra Peak. The trek up to the top of the peak takes about three hours, but the stunning view of the valley from the top of the peak is worth it. Make sure to bring your own food and water as there aren't many vendors on the way. At the base of the peak, you can buy flowers and chocolates as an offering to the deity worshipped by the tribes living in the nearby areas.
The Edakkal Caves are a set of ancient caves known for their prehistoric carvings and paintings. They require a moderate hike to get to, but the view from the top is stunning. The caves are open from 9 AM to 4 PM, so plan accordingly. After visiting the caves, you can explore Sulthan Bathery. The town is known for its spice market and Jain temples.
If you have more time, you can explore other attractions in Wayanadu such as the Banasura Sagar Dam, Pookode Lake, and Thirunelli Temple. If you have less time, you can skip either Chembra Peak or Edakkal Caves. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothing, and carry a backpack with food and water. Public transportation is not frequent in Wayanadu, so plan in advance and hire a taxi for the day.
