Exploring the Charm of Meghalaya for 4 Days

  1. Day 1: Arrival at Shillong
    Guwahati to Shillong (100 km, 3 hours)

    Start your journey by arriving at Shillong, also called the ‘Scotland of the East’. From Guwahati, take a taxi to reach Shillong and explore the beautiful landscape on your way. Start your day by exploring the seven sisters falls, also called the Nohsngithiang Falls and be awestruck by the beauty of the waterfall. Visit Don Bosco Museum and take a closer look into the diverse culture, history, and traditions of the North-East. End the day by enjoying the breathtaking sunset at Shillong Peak.

  2. Day 2: Exploring the Living Root Bridges of Cherrapunji
    Shillong to Cherrapunji (50 km, 2 hours)

    Start your day early in the morning and reach Mawlynnong, the cleanest village in Asia recognized by UNESCO and explore the village's beautiful scenery. Head to the living root bridges of Cherrapunji, a marvel of natural engineering that dates back to over 200 years. End the day by visiting the beautiful and sacred Nohkalikai waterfall.

  3. Day 3: Caving and Trekking around Meghalaya
    Cherrapunji to Mawsynram (25 km, 30 mins)

    Begin your day by reaching Mawsynram, the wettest place on Earth with lush green forests and a wonderful climate. Try out caving at Mawsmai cave, get amazed by the crystal formations, and lose yourself in the natural beauty of the cave. Head to Mawphlang sacred grove, an ancient and dense forest full of rare plants and with some of the unique biodiversity of North East India. End your day with a trek to David Scott trail, a famous historical trail that leads to a beautiful lake called the 'Wei Sawdong.'

  4. Day 4: Exploring the Culture and Tradition of Shillong
    Mawsynram to Shillong (50 km, 2 hours)

    On your final day, visit the Polo grounds, a grand venue of several cultural and sports events. Visit the Ward's lake, a beautiful lake wrapped in lush greenery, and take a relaxing boat ride. Head to the Don Bosco Church, a beautiful architectural marvel made entirely of glass and learn about the culture and tradition of the locals. Shop for souvenirs at Police Bazar, also known as Khyndailad market and end your journey by exploring the Shillong Cathedral, the largest church in Meghalaya.

Useful Tips

If you have extra time, explore Laitlum Canyons and Dawki river, both located a short drive away from Shillong. If you have less time, skip the Mawlynnong Village and instead head directly to the Living Root Bridges of Cherrapunji. Do note that the Living Root Bridges are located in a remote area, and it may take longer than the estimated time to reach them. Remember to carry comfortable shoes, mosquito repellents, and rainwear.
