Start your day by exploring the local marketplace, Hampi Bazaar. This is a great place to buy souvenirs and traditional clothes. It's a bustling street filled with small restaurants, cafes, and food stalls serving local delicacies. Don't forget to try the delicious Masala Dosa, a crispy pancake made with rice batter, with a spicy potato filling and chutney.
Start early and take a hike up to Matanga Hill while the sun rises, to enjoy the beautiful view of the ruins and countryside. Winding up the rocky trail to the hilltop can be challenging but the breathtaking panoramic view of Hampi's landscape is worth it. The sunrise over the Tungabhadra river is a sight to behold, so don't forget to bring your camera and capture the view for a lifetime.
Head to Hippie Island, also known as Anegundi, for a day full of adventure. You can rent a motorbike to explore this vibrant island located across the Tungabhadra river from Hampi. Visit the Hanuman temple, the Pampa Sarovar (the lake of the goddess Pampa), and take a dip at the Sanapur Lake. End your day by watching the sunset at the Monkey Temple, a serene place located on Anjanadri Hill.
If you have more time, consider visiting the Vittala Temple, which is famous for its musical pillars. For the history buffs, the Hampi Archaeological Museum is worth a visit. If you have less time, skip Hampi Bazaar and head straight to Matanga Hill for a sunrise hike. Choose a weekend for your trip as most of the places are closed on Fridays. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and carry plenty of water and sunscreen while exploring this historic and adventurous town.
