Start your adventure in Wayanad with a hike up Chembra Peak. The trek to the top is a challenging but rewarding one, offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. You'll get to see a heart-shaped lake on the way to the top. Make sure to carry your trekking essentials such as water bottles, snacks, and trekking poles. Wear comfortable hiking shoes and light clothes. Once you reach the peak, take a moment to bask in the glory of the breathtaking views and capture some of the perfect selfies here. This three-hour hike is not for everyone, so make sure you are reasonably fit.
After your hike to Chembra Peak, cool off at the Meenmutty Falls, one of the largest waterfalls in Wayanad. The natural surroundings of the falls are breathtaking, with lush green forest all around, making the trek down to the falls feel like a journey in the jungles. The hike to the falls is only a little over one hour, but the terrain can be a bit tricky. Make sure to follow the marked trails to get there safely and carry a swimming suit if you want to take a quick dip. The falls offer a fascinating view comparing to other waterfalls in the district.
Start your day early as you proceed to the Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary to experience the wild and see animals such as elephants, tigers, panthers, langurs, etc. The wildlife sanctuary is spread across about 350 sq. Km and has guided jeep tours through the jungle on offer. The early morning drive will take you through the rugged terrain where you may spot macro fauna crossing your path. Adventures await you all the way through the sanctuary, so get your cameras ready and be prepared for a thrilling ride.
After you've finished your wildlife spotting adventure, head to the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India and the second-largest in Asia. The dam has breathtaking vistas of mountains on all sides and a reservoir with crystal clear blue water. You can take a boat ride to see the Banasuras island in the middle of the dam, visit the surrounding park, or try out adventure activities like trekking and zip-lining. This is the perfect place to wrap up your Wayanad adventure and enjoy the outstanding views of the mountains and valleys from the top.
If you have extra time, you can add to your itinerary by visiting the Edakkal Caves, Kuruva Island, or Soochipara Falls, subject to opening and closing times. Or consider a farm stay and indulge in the local foods and cultures. Make sure to carry enough cash, as most of these sites do not accept digital payment methods.
