Admire the stunning Elephant Falls, which got its name because it resembles an elephant. You can walk down the 3-4 flights of stairs to the base of the falls which provides a better view of the natural wonders. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as there are many steps down and back again. There are small shops in the area where you can buy locally made souvenirs or grab a bite to eat.
Enjoy the spectacular panoramic views of the entire city of Shillong at Shillong Peak, the highest point in Shillong. It’s a great spot for photography and a picnic with family. There’s also a small market at the peak where you can buy fresh fruits, souvenirs and handicrafts made by local people. Don’t forget to bring your camera to capture the beauty of nature.
Visit the Don Bosco Museum which showcases the rich and diverse culture of Northeast India. You can learn about history, arts, crafts, and culture of the tribal communities of the states of the northeast. The place is also great for kids, as there are interactive displays, art pieces, artifacts, and showcases for education and knowledge sharing. Don’t miss the skywalk which provides beautiful views of the nearby hills.
If you have more time, you can add a visit to the Umiam Lake, which is just 30 minutes away from Shillong Peak. For those with less time, you can subtract Elephant Falls and visit Wards Lake instead, which is known for its beautiful gardens and boating activities. Don’t forget to bring comfortable shoes, water, and sunscreen as the sun can be intense during the day.
