Start your trip by relaxing on the sandy beaches of Agii Apostoli. The picturesque landscape, golden sand, and crystal-clear waters are perfect for a day of sunbathing, swimming and reading. The beaches are equipped with umbrellas and sunbeds, making it an easy spot to enjoy a day outdoors. There are a good number of cafes and restaurants along the promenade to grab a meal or drink at any point of the day.
The Samaria Gorge attracts around a quarter of a million visitors every year, and it's easy to see why. This 18 km stretch of nature reserve is a perfect way to explore the Cretan landscape and bond with nature. The park is open from May to October and is a perfect day trip complete with stunning views, quiet contemplation, and relaxing walks.
Enjoy some peace and quiet surrounded by the colorful paradise of flora in the Botanical Park and Gardens of Crete, which is 49 acres of diverse flora set against the picturesque backdrop of the Cretan mountains. The park also has sections dedicated to ancient plants, a romantic garden, and trails that wind through different sceneries, offering a memorable and relaxing experience. The park is most beautiful during spring and early fall.
A beautiful lagoon reminiscent of the Caribbean is situated on Gramvousa Peninsula, and Balos Beach is the perfect spot to unwind before returning home. Featuring turquoise waters, soft coral sand, and unparalleled views of the sea, Balos Beach is a relaxing way to end your trip.
If you have more time, you should include visiting the Elafonissi Beach, the Aptera Fortress ruins, or the Arkadi Monastery. In case of a shorter stay, you can skip the Samaria gorge national park and then include the Agia Marina beach, the Souda Bay War Cemetery, or the Folklore Museum of Chania. Although the public transport system of Chania is pretty efficient, we advise renting a car for a relaxing and comfortable journey. If you visit Chania in July or August, note that the tourist spots can get overcrowded so plan the itinerary accordingly.
