Begin your day at one of the most famous temples in the city, the Nellaiappar Temple, known for its stunning architecture, cultural significance and religious importance. The temple is built in the Dravidian style of architecture and dates back to the 17th century.
Shop till you drop at Pothys, one of the largest department stores in India, with a wide variety of sarees, dress materials, and accessories. You can find some of the best traditional outfits here to take home as souvenirs or wear during the Indian holidays and festivals.
Enjoy a local lunch at Aryaas, a famous restaurant chain in Tamil Nadu, known for its South Indian cuisine specially their varieties of Dosas. You can also try their meals, biryanis, and desserts, and don't forget to try their filter coffee, which is a specialty of the region.
Visit the historic Kattabomman Memorial Fort, named after a local who fought against the British East India Company during the 18th century. The fort has a great collection of artifacts and weaponry used during the Indian independence struggle. You can also enjoy panoramic views of the mountains and the Tamirabharani river from the fort.
End your day at Thirunelveli Junction, the main railway station in the city, and a great spot for photography, with its colonial-era architecture and bustling atmosphere. You can also find a lot of street food vendors and souvenir shops near the station.
If you have more time, you can include a boat ride at Papanasam Dam, or if you are into adventure, trekking to the Kalakkadu Wildlife Sanctuary or the Manimuthar Waterfalls, which are around 30 km from the city center. If you have less time, you can skip Pothys and add a stroll at the Gandhi Memorial, which is located near the Nellaiappar Temple.
