Start your day with a visit to the Shillong Peak, the highest point in Shillong, offering a stunning panoramic view of the city and surrounding hills. Take a short trek to see the Elephant Falls, surrounded by lush greenery. Later, head to the Umiam Lake, a serene spot where you can enjoy water activities like kayaking or simply have a picnic.
Visit Mawlynnong Village, known as "Asia's Cleanest Village", to see how the locals maintain their surroundings. Take a short trek through the forest to see the Living Root Bridges, an amazing network of bridges made entirely from roots of rubber fig trees. Head to Dawki, a small town on the border of India and Bangladesh. The Dawki River is a dazzling blue stream, where you can take a boat ride and gaze at the clear waters.
Visit Nohkalikai Falls, the tallest plunge waterfall in India, surrounded by green hills and splendid views. Take a drive to Mawsmai Cave, known for its breathtaking stalactites and stalagmites, formed naturally over thousands of years. Later, head to the Laitlum Canyon, also called the "Scottish Highlands of India", offers a picturesque view of green valleys and gorges.
If you have more time, add a visit to Cherrapunjee, where you can see the Seven Sisters Falls and the Double Decker Living Root Bridge. Alternatively, you can skip Umiam Lake, and head to Elephant Falls and Wards Lake on Day 1. For those short on time, Day 2 can be combined with Day 3 to make it a day trip from Shillong. Finally, be mindful of the winter weather, as it can cause roadblocks and travel disruptions.
