Above ground, you’ll discover life in a mining town, and see heritage buildings that housed the miners and their families.
Visit the Marine Atlantic Ferry Terminal for a unique experience. See massive ferries that cross the Gulf of St. Lawrence, from Nova Scotia to Newfoundland. The tour takes place inside the terminal and it's free. If you’re lucky enough to be going to Newfoundland, you may even spot a whale or two on the journey

There are several spots to choose from such as Inverness Beach, Point Michaud Beach Provincial Park, Dominion Beach Provincial Park, and many others. Bring your camera to capture the stunning views, pack some snacks, and take your time to enjoy the sand and the sun.
If you have more time, add a visit to The Big Fiddle in Sydney or The Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site. If you want to make the trip more active, hiking at the Cape Breton Highlands National Park is a great option.
