Enjoy a stroll through the historic Old Town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. You’ll see Baroque architecture and unique medieval features, such as narrow alleyways and hidden courtyards. You can also visit the Hohensalzburg Fortress, which is one of the largest medieval castles in Europe.
Spend the morning at the Hellbrunn Palace, where you can learn about the history of the grounds and the famous Prince Archbishop Markus Sittikus. In the afternoon, experience the unique Trick Fountains, which includes hidden water features and interesting sculptures.
Visit the Mirabell Palace, which is famous for its Baroque style and was featured in the movie “The Sound of Music”. Take a stroll through the beautiful gardens which have been carefully designed to showcase stunning flowers and fountains.
Salzburg has a great number of museums, offering a variety of themes and exhibitions. Visit the Mozart Museum and learn about the famous composer's life, or explore the Salzburg Museum for a comprehensive overview of the city’s history. Other options include the Haus der Natur, which is an interactive natural history museum, and the Toy Museum for a fun-filled afternoon.
Take a relaxing cruise down the Salzach River and see the city from a different perspective. You’ll pass by many of Salzburg’s famous landmarks, including the Hohensalzburg Fortress and the Mirabell Palace. The cruise includes entertaining commentary and stunning views.
Visit the Stiegl Brewery to see how beer is made and to sample some of Salzburg’s finest brews. After the tour, relax in the nearby beer garden with a cold pint and some delicious local cuisine.
Hike to the top of Mount Untersberg and enjoy the stunning panoramic views of the city below. Alternatively, you can take the cable car to the peak, where you’ll find a restaurant and gift shop.
Most of the locations in this itinerary are easily accessible by foot. However, you may want to take a bus to Mount Untersberg or to the Stiegl Brewery. The cost for local transportation is around €1.50 per trip. Taxis are also readily available and fares vary based on distance.
If you have more time, consider taking a day trip to the nearby Lake District or the Eagle's Nest. If you have less time, skip the Stiegl Brewery and Beer Garden or the Mount Untersberg hike.
