Take a guided Dreamtime Tour with an Indigenous guide who will tell you stories of the Kuku Yalanji, the traditional owners of the land. Explore the rainforest by taking the River Circuit Walk.
Embark on a scenic train journey along the steep slopes and through tunnels of the Barron Gorge National Park with the Kuranda Scenic Railway. Disembark in the village of Kuranda and explore the local markets and galleries. Return to Cairns on the Skyrail, a gondola cableway that passes over the canopy of the rainforest. It’s a great opportunity to experience the splendid views of the area.
The Cairns Botanic Gardens are the perfect place to learn about the native plants and trees of Tropical North Queensland. You'll experience the stunning colours and species of the tropical flora. Guided walks are available to provide a deeper insight into their origins and ecology.
If you have more time, visit the Great Barrier Reef from Cairns or explore the Atherton Tablelands. If you have less time, skip the Cairns Botanic Gardens or the Mossman Gorge Centre. Don't forget to wear comfortable clothes and shoes, bring insect repellent, sunscreen and a water bottle.
