Jog Falls is the second-highest plunge waterfall in India and a must-see attraction in Shimoga. The falls are best seen during the monsoon season (June to September) when the waterflow is the highest. You can take a short trek to reach the bottom of the falls and take a refreshing dip in the natural pool.
Located in the heart of the famous Shivamogga Lion and Tiger Safari drives in the dense forests of Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, this safari offers a glimpse of lion and tigers roaming in the wilderness. A must-visit site for all wildlife enthusiasts, the safari also has blackbucks, spotted deer and reptiles.
Keladi is a historic site and the former capital city of the Keladi Nayakas. Visit the Rameshwara temple with its carved pillars, the Keladi museum, and the Shivappa Nayaka Palace, which was constructed in the 16th century and served as the residence of the Keladi rulers.
The Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary is a treat for all bird lovers. Spot different species of waterbirds, including egrets, herons, cormorants, and pelicans. The best time to visit the sanctuary is during the winter months, from November to February.
If you have more time, consider visiting the Gajanur Dam, located just 15 minutes from Shimoga, and the Sakrebailu Elephant Camp, about an hour's drive from Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary. If you have less time, skip the Lion and Tiger Safari and opt for a visit to the Kote Kere Lake in Shimoga instead.
