Explore the Edakkal Caves, a natural wonder with ancient rock carvings from the Neolithic period. Take a mild trek of 1.5 kilometers up steep terrain, while enjoying mesmerizing views of nearby villages and the surrounding natural beauty. Upon reaching the caves, you can also learn about the fascinating history behind the carvings.
Head to the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest Earthen dam in India. Enjoy mesmerising views of the nearby mountains and the crystal clear waters of the dam. Take a pleasant boat ride or go on a trek to nearby hills. If you want to get more adventurous, there are also ziplining options available here.
Visit the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. Go on a jeep safari and spot elephants, tigers, leopards and many other animals amongst the lush green forests. You can also experience the rich flora of the area with a nature walk or a short trek. The sanctuary is closed on Mondays.
If you have more time, visit the Chembra Peak for an adventurous trek. If you have less time, you can visit the Soochipara Waterfalls or Pookode Lake instead of Banasura Sagar Dam. Make sure to carry comfortable shoes, hats, and sunscreen. Always carry drinking water and avoid littering in the natural areas.
