The Viceregal Lodge was the residence of the British Viceroy of India and is now a museum and research centre. Built in Gothic style architecture, the lodge boasts of a spacious garden and grand ballrooms, giving visitors an insight into the colonial history of India. The museum also houses some rare photographs and artifacts from the British rule. Do not forget to take a stroll in the lush green lawns and gardens of the Lodge.
Mall Road is a popular shopping destination located in the heart of Shimla, offering a wide range of handicrafts, woolens, and souvenirs. The road is lined with several restaurants, cafes, and bars offering tasty local cuisine. Do not forget to try the famous Channa Madra and Siddus. Mall Road is also home to several famous attractions like the Gaiety Theatre, the Scandal Point and the Kali Bari Temple.
For those who have more time, consider taking a toy train ride from Shimla to Kalka - one of the most scenic train journeys in India. Also, do not miss out on visiting the Jakhoo Hill, Kali Bari Temple, and Summer Hill. For those who have less time, skip Kufri and visit the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Christ Church and Annandale instead.
