The Sabarimala Sannidhanam is one of the most revered Hindu pilgrimages in the world. Millions of pilgrims visit this place every year. They have to undertake a strenuous trek through dense forests, steep hills, and rocky paths to reach the holy shrine of Lord Ayyappa. The trek is divided into five different parts, each designed to test the physical and mental stamina of the pilgrims. Along the way, pilgrims can stop to offer food and water to the needy, clean the trek route or volunteer in medical camps.
Sabarimala Hospital is a charitable hospital located in the holy town of Sabarimala. It provides free medical care and treatment to the pilgrims who visit this town. As a volunteer at this hospital, you will get the opportunity to help the hospital staff in tasks such as cleaning, bandaging, check-ups, and administering medicines. Additionally, you can offer to donate blood which is always in high demand during the peak pilgrim season.
If you have more time, you can visit the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, a beautiful national park, located about 87 miles from Sabarimala. You can also visit the nearby town of Pathanamthitta which is famous for its rich culture and traditions. If you have less time, you can skip the hospital volunteering and spend more time exploring the trekking route to Sabarimala Sannidhanam.
