Dudhsagar Falls is the highlight of day one. It is a four-tiered waterfall that takes its name from the white water that cascades down from the rocky mountains. The falls are accessed by a 1.5-kilometer hike or a 30-minute jeep ride through the narrow forest roads of Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary. The sight of the falls is exhilarating, with the sound of the water crashing down onto the rocks reverberating all around. Those who are feeling adventurous can take a refreshing dip in the cold waters, but swimming is prohibited during the monsoon season from June to September.
Day two starts with a visit to a nearby spice plantation. Unleash your senses as you walk through a variety of fragrant spices like cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper, and cardamom. Experience the traditional way of extracting spices and the various medicinal properties they possess. You can relish a traditional Goan meal at the plantation, which is usually prepared with fresh vegetables and spices grown on-site. The tour usually lasts for two hours and is available for booking online.
For those with more time, visiting the Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary can be an insightful experience. One can enjoy a safari ride through the jeep track and spot various animals and birds in their natural habitat. History enthusiasts can visit the Tambdi Surla Temple, a 12th-century Shaivite temple built with black basaltic rock and enclosed by lush green forests.
For those with less time, skip the spice plantation tour, and visit the Sahakari Spice Farm instead. It is closer to Dudhsagar and offers similar guided tours. Travelers may also combine Dudhsagar with a visit to the Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary and Mollem National Park, both a short drive away.
