Start your exploration of Lisbon with a visit to Belem Tower, an iconic monument that dates back to the early 16th century. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site, built to defend the city. Afterward, head to Padrao dos Descobrimentos, a monument that celebrates the Portuguese explorers. Stroll down to the urban waterfront park at the Ribeira das Naus, where the Portuguese once kept their fleet of ships. End your day at Lisbon Cathedral (Sé de Lisboa), one of the oldest churches in the city, with interiors adorned with Baroque embellishments.
Begin your day with a visit to the Jeronimos Monastery (Mosteiro dos Jerónimos), another UNESCO site. It is a beautiful example of the Manueline style of architecture. After this, continue to the Bairro Alto, the hilly historic district with narrow streets and old architecture. Take a Tram 28 ride, one of the most popular attractions in the area, and explore the neighborhoods of Alfama and Graça. End your day with sightseeing at the Castelo de São Jorge, a medieval castle that has become an iconic symbol of the city.
Start Day 3 in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Porto by visiting Sé do Porto, known as the "mother church," and a dramatic example of Romanesque architecture. Afterward, take a stroll across the famous ironwork bridge, the Ponte de Dom Luis I, and explore the riverside neighborhood of Ribeira. Head to Livraria Lello, one of the oldest and most beautiful bookshops in the world, with a stunning interior that inspired J.K. Rowling’s "Harry Potter" series. Finally, complete your day with a wine tasting experience at the Port Wine Cellars, a memorable experience!
Start your final day at Clerigos Tower (Torre dos Clérigos), an iconic Baroque monument of Porto. A must-visit for panoramic views. Head over to the Praça da Liberdade and visit the neoclassical building that houses the city’s main train station, the Sao Bento Train Station, to discover the magnificent azulejo-tiled walls. Spend time exploring the modern street art in the district of Miragaia, before relaxing at the Crystal Palace Gardens (Jardins do Palácio de Cristal), with several alleys and parks for enjoying nature, art exhibitions and lake views.
If you enjoy museums and galleries, we recommend visiting the National Museum of Ancient Art (Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga) in Lisbon, showcasing Portugal's art history, handicrafts and decorative arts. In Porto, don't miss the contemporary art exhibitions of Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art (Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Serralves). If you have more time, add Praia da Rocha to your itinerary. It's a beautiful beach in the Algarve that is only a few hours from Lisbon. Alternatively, if you have less time, you can skip Lello Bookstore or Port Wine Cellars, as they can get crowded and ruin the experience.
