Start your first day with a visit to the Thiruchendur Murugan Temple, one of the six abodes of Lord Murugan. The temple is situated on the seashore and is dedicated to Lord Murugan, the God of War. The temple complex has several halls, shrines, and a beautiful pond. The main attraction of the temple is the gold-covered Rajagopuram, which is visible from a distance. You can participate in the morning and evening poojas and also visit the sub-temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. Do not forget to try the delicious prasadam offered at the temple.
Next, visit the Valli's Cave, located about 7 km from the temple. It is a natural cave on a hillock, believed to be the place where Valli, the consort of Lord Murugan, meditated. The cave offers a panoramic view of the sea and nearby villages. The entrance to the cave is a narrow passage, and it is recommended to carry a torchlight for visibility. The hike to the cave is also enjoyable. Spend some peaceful time in the serene environment of the cave.
Start your second day by witnessing the mesmerizing sunrise at the southernmost tip of India, Kanyakumari Beach. The beach is serene and offers a splendid view of the confluence of three seas- the Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea, and the Indian Ocean. Do not miss the opportunity to visit the iconic Vivekananda Rock Memorial dedicated to the great spiritual leader, Swami Vivekananda. The memorial houses a meditation hall and offers a panoramic view of the sea from the viewing deck. The ferry ride to the memorial is also enjoyable.
Finally, visit the 3000-year-old Bhagavathy Amman Temple, one of the 108 Shakti Peethas. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy, and it is believed that the Goddess blesses devotees with power and spiritual wisdom. The temple houses a large idol of the Goddess, and you can also visit the shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. Do not forget to capture pictures of the stunning architecture and intricate carvings of the temple.
If you have more time, you can visit the nearby beaches and waterfalls. The Papanasam Beach, about 25 km from Thiruchendur, is known for its crystal-clear water and scenic sunset view. You can also visit the Thirparappu Falls, located about 60 km from Kanyakumari.
If you have less time, you can consider skipping Valli's cave and visiting the Padmanabhapuram Palace, located about 40 km from Kanyakumari. The palace is an architectural marvel and showcases the traditional art and culture of the region.
