Start your trip to Wayanad with a visit to the Edakkal Caves. These caves are famous for containing rock paintings that are over 10,000 years old. This site is an adventure enthusiast's paradise as you'll have to climb up steep rocks and narrow pathways to reach here. The view from the top is absolutely breathtaking and is worth the effort. The site is open from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm and is closed on Mondays.
After the adventure of the first day, unwind by spending a day at Banasura Sagar Dam. This dam is the largest earthen dam in India and lies amidst the beautiful Banasura hills. This place is perfect for a day out with family and has facilities for trekking, boating, and zip-lining. Enjoy a picnic with your family while enjoying the scenic view. The dam is open from 9 am to 5 pm.
End your trip to Wayanad with a visit to the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. This sanctuary is home to numerous rare and endangered species like Indian Bison, Tigers, Elephants, and more. You can choose to explore the sanctuary with a jeep safari or go for a trek on one of the many trails. Open from 7 am to 10 am and 3 pm to 5 pm, closed on Saturdays and national holidays.
If you have more time, you can visit other places like Pookode Lake, Soochipara Falls, Karapuzha Dam, and more. If you have less time, you can skip Banasura Sagar Dam and directly head to Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary on Day 2. Avoid visiting on national holidays and weekends as it can get crowded. Make sure to carry adequate water, snacks, and sunscreen. Wear comfortable shoes and avoid wearing bright colors as it can attract animals in the wildlife sanctuary.
