Start your first day by visiting the iconic Vivekananda Rock Memorial, a sacred spot that holds great historical and spiritual significance due to its association with Swami Vivekananda. You'll need to take a ferry to reach the monument, but the view of the surrounding sea and coastline is worth the effort. The memorial itself houses a meditation room and is a perfect place to spend some peaceful time.
Today we'll explore the beautiful Suchindram Temple situated in the town of Suchindram. This temple is known for its intricate Dravidian-style architecture that features a 40-metre high gopuram. Inside you'll find lovely carvings, sculptures and the famous Vishnu-Lingam deity. If you're lucky, you can also catch a glimpse of the temple's daily elephant procession.
On your final day, visit the Padmanabhapuram Palace, one of the oldest wooden palaces in the world. This place gives a glimpse of Kerala's history and traditional architecture. Walk through the beautiful corridors, rooms with exquisite interiors and intricate carvings. Don't miss the palace museum which houses a collection of paintings, weapons and other historical artefacts.
If you have extra time, you can also visit the Gandhi Memorial or the Kanyakumari Temple. If you have less time, skip Suchindram Temple and spend more time at Padmanabhapuram Palace. Ensure to start sightseeing early in the day, especially at Vivekananda Rock Memorial, as crowds can get overwhelming. Lastly, do not forget to try the local cuisine and seafood!
