Pookode Lake, a natural freshwater lake amidst lush greenery, is an ideal location for family picnics and leisure boating. The lake is surrounded by a peaceful forest where one can enjoy a nature walk. Additionally, there is also an aquarium and a children’s park on the premises. The kids will especially enjoy feeding the fish and ducks.
Edakkal Caves, located on top of Ambukuthi Mala, are famous for their ancient rock art and stone sculptures. The caves are accessible after a 30-minute hike up a hill. The views from the top are spectacular and the kids will enjoy the adventurous trek and exploring the caves. The carvings on the rocks are believed to be over 7000 years old making this a remarkable archaeological site in Kerala.
If you have more time, you can add a visit to Soochippara Waterfalls or Banasura Dam on Day 1 or Day 2. If you have less time, you can skip the aquarium and children’s park at Pookode Lake or visit only one of the caves at Edakkal Caves. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes for the hike to Edakkal Caves and carry water and snacks. It is also advisable to hire a guide to learn more about the fascinating history of the area and the significance of the rock art.
