Begin with a visit to the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Vaari Temple, considered one of the most sacred and visited Hindu temples in the world. The temple is dedicated to Lord Venkateswara, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It features a magnificent gopuram and has various shrines, mandapam, and other structures within its premises. As it is a popular spot, lines can be long, so arrive early to avoid any delays.
Start the day by visiting Srikalahasti Temple. It is one of the most popular Shiva temples in the region. It is known for its Vayu Linga (Lord Shiva), which has the unique ability to heal ailments related to breathing and respiratory systems. Head to Kanipakam Temple next, which is dedicated to Lord Ganesha. It is an example of 13th-century architecture with a gold-plated gopuram and rock-cut mandapams. Both temples have their own distinct style and are a perfect representation of South Indian temples.
On the final day, explore the magnificent Chandragiri Fort, which was the capital of the Vijayanagara Empire in the 16th century. It has two forts, the Raja Mahal and the Rani Mahal. The former highlights the various artefacts, paintings, and weaponry that display the rich culture and traditions of the Vijayanagara Empire. Finish the day at Sri Venkateswara Museum, which showcases artefacts, sculptures, and paintings of the temple and the region. The museum has three galleries where you can take a closer look at the history, architecture, and artistic skills of the people in the region.
If you have more time, explore the Sri Kapileswara Swamy temple, which is an excellent example of Vijayanagara architecture. If you have less time, you can skip Chandragiri Fort and Sri Venkateswara Museum. Remember to dress conservatively while visiting temples and remove your footwear before entering the temple premises.
