Visit the Dubare Elephant Camp to get up close with majestic elephants. You can watch these gentle giants being bathed and fed. Interact with them, learn more about their lives and their heritage. The best experience is taking a coracle ride across the river Cauvery. You will discover wildlife such as crocodiles and exotic birds along the way. A sanctuary for the pachyderms, it is a haven for the nature lovers, and offers a great insight into the life of elephants.
Climb to the Mullayanagiri Hills which are considered the highest peak in Karnataka and enjoy mesmerizing views from the top. The hills are perfect for challenging trek with several trails from easy to difficult. You will come across several waterfalls too, such as the Buttermilk Falls, and the best part is walking through the coffee plantations. Keep your eyes open for the endangered Nilgiri Marten which is found only in these hills. During monsoon, the hills get laced with heavenly cloud cover and are a sight to behold.
Visit the scenic Abbey Falls which cascade from a height of 70 feet amidst the luscious greenery of Western Ghats. You will need to walk through sprawling coffee plantations to arrive at the Falls. The roaring sound of the water is amazing and a great photo opportunity during the monsoon. You can trek to the top of the waterfall and watch the waterfall drop from different angles. Refresh and rejuvenate amongst the calm surrounding, away from the hustle of city life.
If you have more time, add a visit to the adjoining national parks such as the Kudremukh and Bandipur national parks. If you have less time, consider skipping either Dubare Elephant Camp or Abbey Falls. The monsoon months can be dangerous, avoid trekking during heavy rain. Carry adequate water bottles, in case you plan to trek. Avoid visiting on public holidays to avoid large crowds.
