Banasura Sagar Dam is the second-largest dam in Asia, built across the tributary of River Kaveri. The dam's breathtaking surroundings and vast water area make it a paradise for both nature lovers and adventurers. The dam offers kayaking and pedal boating sessions, but the real thrill lies in the trek to the nearby hills, where you will witness the awe-inspiring view of the valleys and surrounding mountains. The trek is about 2.5km, and the weather in June further adds to its beauty.
Located on the northern side of Wayanad, Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary is home to exotic species such as the Bengal tiger and elephants. The sanctuary also offers jungle safaris, which is a must for all adventure enthusiasts. A visit here is an ideal way to explore the dense forests of the Western Ghats and their flora and fauna. The best time to visit is during the morning or evening, when you can spot the jungle inhabitants in their natural habitat.
If you have an extra day, you can add a visit to the Edakkal Caves, known for their pre-historic carvings. For those short on time, consider skipping the jungle safari at the Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary and instead opt for a visit to Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, also located in Wayanad.
