The Ashram has a great collection of their teachings and their works including paintings and manuscripts. It is a serene place that is definitely worth visiting, especially for those itching for an escape from everyday stresses.
The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a place of worship and prayer that dates back to the late 18th century. The Gothic-style architecture and stained-glass windows make for an impressive and peaceful visit. Don't forget to stop by the bookstore on the premises on your way out.
A trip to Pondicherry is incomplete without experiencing the famous Promenade Beach which is one of the most popular tourist places in the city. This beach offers refreshing sea views, soft golden sand and is perfect for the evening walk along with a cold breeze of Bay of Bengal. with fresh air. You can also take a bike ride along the walkway. It's also known for the wide collection of cafes, shopping items along with some street food corners.
Auroville is one of the most happening and peaceful places in Pondicherry that invites visitors from all around the world. The place was founded in 1968 by Mirra Alfassa, the spiritual collaborator of Sri Aurobindo. It is designed as a universal town where people of different nationalities, religions, castes, and beliefs can live in peace, harmony, and mutual respect. Entrance to the town is free of charge and visitors are welcome to witness the famous Matri Mandir which is a golden geodesic dome and a popular meditation center.
The Chunnambar Boat House is a beautiful boathouse located along the scenic backwaters of the River Chunnambar. The location is perfect for a luxurious picnic along with a variety of entertainment facilities like swimming and trekking on the scenic trails of the southern side. You can also experience the oceanic life by choosing the option of water sports including kayaking, canoeing, and speed water boat ride.
If you have more time, consider adding a visit to the Pondicherry Botanical Garden as it is an oasis of peace with lush green surroundings. In addition, you can also check out the Pondicherry Museum to explore the heritage of the town. If you have less time, consider skipping one of the two activities on Day 2 or skipping Auroville altogether.
