A Nature Lover's 3-Day Itinerary for Wayanad in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Banasura Sagar Dam

    Banasura Sagar Dam, India's largest earthen dam with magnificent views is a great spot to begin your itinerary. Its vast catchment area, crystal clear waters and mountains in the background make it a picturesque location. Boat rides, trekking, and hiking trails in the Banasura hills are available. If you're lucky, you might see some wild animals such as sloth bears and langurs.

  2. Day 2: Chembra Peak and Lake
    1 hour 20 minutes (30 km) from Kalpetta

    Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad, is a long and adventurous trek. The summit provides breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys and towns. The heart-shaped Chembra Lake located on the peak is definitely worth a visit. You must obtain a permit from the forest department for trekking.

  3. Day 3: Thirunelli Temple and Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary
    2 hours 10 minutes (64 km) from Kalpetta

    Take a spiritual journey to Thirunelli Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and is surrounded by the Brahmagiri Hills and beautiful Papanasini stream. The Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary nearby is home to rare bird species, including the Malabar hornbill, and also some animals like sloth bears and leopards. There are trekking options available,but is a bit demanding and will require assistance of a local guide.
